The SENTIENT BOSS is the epiphany of the sarcastic relationship (to-be-born) between human leaders and AI tools. I believe the difficulty we humans face when dealing with our own imperfections will be exacerbated in that relationship. The famous STAR TREK relationship between Cap. Kirk and Dr. Spock was a good preview of how humans will deal with extremely logical and precise thinkers. A relationship full of joy, irritation, sarcasm and cross-leveraging of amazing solutions.
As Leaders we will have to learn and adapt fast our way of getting things done and drive results. The SENTIENT BOSS will bring important tools, examples and themes for discussion so we can all learn together.
As a child, I dreamed of building speaking robots and time travel. As a young electronics engineer, I kept nurturing my passion for technology, and in the 90's I took part in one of the first academic teams developing AI in Brazil. My team mission was making a robot see and recognize objects. We quickly learned that making robots see was not difficult, but making them recognize objects as humans do, would take decades to achieve. Moreover, to get it done it would be critical to get multifunctional teams to work well together – never an easy task. That realization made me quickly change gears and shift my focus to understand human behaviors.
As a Marketing and Chief Executive, I have dedicated two decades helping large enterprises such as Microsoft, HTC, Nokia, PepsiCo, Unilever and Accenture emotionally connect with their customers, creating winning concepts and products, digitally transform their businesses, dramatically increase sales. and above all - developing teams to be high-performers. I learned soon enough that nurturing healthy relationships, creating trust and genuinely caring for each team member was the key to achieve high-performance levels. I found most companies do not operate this way nowadays, despite all the employees’ unhappiness and disengagement. Hence, I decided to do what I usually do – elevate the state of the workplace.
In 2017, I founded two companies. WORKPLACE21 was created to harness the power of AI and Behavioral Sciences to elevate every business professional and unleash high team performance. COLLECTIVE BRAINS is a network of thought leaders and experts, interested in transforming the workplace, spread knowledge and develop skills by advising leaders and executives and sharing provocative ideas.
I still cannot time travel, but I do have glimpses of what the future will look like as we create a better, more human, inclusive and sustainable, workplace.
Above all that, I dedicate my time to raise broad awareness about the important decisions we have to make today to build a more equitable society. One that’s built upon solid democratic institutions and more inclusive capitalism. One where all of us can thrive. For that purpose, I have created a group to debate and propose a new social pact in Brazil - the União pela Ética, Competência e um Plano para o Brasil (United Group for Ethics, Competence and a Plan for Brazil).
A more equitable society powered by the new technologies and better humans is also the central theme of my book “(NON) HUMAN INTELLIGENCE”.
